In my new home in Castlemaine, Victoria, I discovered some old writings hidden behind some panelling. The writer, a Brian Hagerty is unknown to me, but appears to have quite a unique perspective on the world.

So rather than let these dusty ideas languish behind panelling I have transcribed some of it for publication on the internet.

The Truth about women

I'm getting bloody annoyed with what's happening in this country. Australia used to be a place where a bloke could say what he wanted without some school-teacher type coming up to him and telling him he should be more "policially correct."

How the hell did this happen? I reckon it's because the way Yank TV has snuck into the country, infiltrated itself into every loungeroom, and brainwashed our sheilas.

So today I've decided to write a list explaining the difference between how women see themselves and how I see them:

  • Women who refuse to make adjustments in their lives to accommodate potential suitors are dignified independent ladies silly cows.
  • Women who form relationships with men who then mysteriously turn out to be liars or deadbeats are poor sweet innocents silly cows.
  • Women who sleep around indiscriminately are victims of low self esteem silly cows.
  • Women who enjoy pointing out faults in new ideas are a welcome moderating influence silly cows.
  • Female chatterboxes who think that men enjoy listening to them talk are displaying a good grip on reality silly cows.
  • Single mothers who prefer to remain single are brave souls battling the odds silly cows.
  • Women who read horoscopes are keeping in touch with their spirituality silly cows.
  • Women who expect a man to be both romantic and sensible are being fair dinkum silly cows.
