THE THINKER'S PLEDGE
NEW THINKING FOR THE MILLENIUM
- I believe that a better future is going to depend on better thinking. I believe that
nothing is more likely to benefit the human race than better thinking.
- I believe that human thinking is a skill that can be learned, developed and improved. I
believe that all people can become good thinkers irrespective of intelligence, age,
ability, background, culture, etc. I believe that thinking can be taught directly and
explicitly.
- I believe that our current habits and methods of thinking are excellent in some respects
but inadequate. They can be supplemented by new and better methods designed for more
constructive thinking.
- I accept that most ordinary errors of thinking are errors of perception, I accept that
people act intelligently within their own bubbles of perception.
- I accept that any particular way of looking at a situation may not be the only one, the
best one or the right one. I accept that there are many different ways of looking at a
situation all of which are valid.
- I shall always respect the views and thoughts of others and shall seek to understand the
basis for them.
- I shall use my thinking, energy and ability to promote thinking that is positive,
constructive and creative. I shall in every situation seek to design a constructive way
forward.
- I shall actively contribute to the practical development of a constructive thinking
culture according to my motivation, capability and ability.
- I shall be negative only about the execessive use of negativity.
- I shall introduce to others the possibility of understanding and signing this pledge.
